The MMS Vocal Program
General Information:
- During lessons, students learn proper vocal and performance technique, diction, breathing, theory, and the responsibilities of being a good musician.
- Each student will learn a foreign language, traditional/folk, and a musical theater song.
- Students electing to study privately are taught during choir period, though arrangements can be made before or after school, depending on the instructor.
- Each lesson is once a week for approximately 25 minutes in length.
- In addition to weekly lessons, there will be monthly master classes in which the students will gain experience performing in front of their peers.
- There will be two recitals: one in December and one in May.
- Be thoroughly prepared for each lesson.
- Always bring your sheet music, music binder, and a pencil to each lesson.
- Always notify your voice teacher in advance if you will be absent from a lesson.
- Be knowledgeable of what is considered an “excused” absence.
- In order to avoid copyright infringement, sheet music may be purchased. Online resources include Sheet Music Direct, MusicNotes, and JWPepper.
- Lessons canceled by your voice instructor will be rescheduled. If s/he is unable to reschedule the lesson, the student will not be charged for that lesson.
- Excluding emergencies, the voice teacher must be given 24-hour prior notification for an absence; otherwise the student will be charged for that lesson.
- If a student is in school and misses or skips a lesson without prior notification to the student will still be held accountable for payment of that lesson.
- Absences due to school holidays and functions will either be rescheduled or the student will not be charged.
- The standard rate is $15 per lesson
- Payment for the entire month is due at the first lesson of each month
- All payments received after the due date will incur a $5 late fee for every week past due.
- Invoices will be given to the students in person and sent to parents by e-mail.
- Please make all checks payable to your voice instructor.
